Down But Not Out

A recent study by The Pew Research Center indicates that Americans are increasingly suspicious of facts being presented by the press…but that there is still a great deal of goodwill towards the Fourth Estate. While believability is down significantly, favorability is down slightly, according to their surveys.

The recent revelation about the Watergate source “Deep Throat,” along with the jail sentence for Judith Miller and Time Inc.’s decision to deliver confidential information to a grand jury has renewed interest in the right of the press to withhold the identities of confidential informants.

Every PR practitioner knows that getting press can be precarious. For nonprofits, it can sometimes be even more difficult to cut through the clutter. A new book designed to help these organizations develop a comprehensive PR campaign is a good read that any marketing or PR executive could use.

Podcasting Growth Update

In February we touched upon the growing use of podcasting. According to a top RSS aggregator, FeedBurner, the growth is accelerating. The content distribution company was pointing to only 505 podcast feeds in November of last year, and now that number has jumped to 6,000.

     


Rethinking the Blog

In a recent point-counterpoint article in Optimize Magazine, Trylon president Lloyd Trufelman pointed out the hazards of a not ready for primetime blog strategy. Any company thinking of blogging may want to consider the upside and the downside to such an initiative.
